Harrison Downtown Retreat

This house had everything we needed for a short getaway to celebrate birthdays with friends. The house was very clean and was very comfortable. Set in a quiet area of Galena & close enough to visit fun downtown shops.

We had the best time at this rental for our girls trip. It is the perfect size and the list perfect location to downtown!

We have been staying at this location consistently for the past four years since the pandemic. We visit the area often because I grew up in the area. We have two dogs who come with us because the cost of boarding in our area is so high. It also feels more like home to bring them along.

We love the location since it is walking distance to downtown, but remote enough to feel as though you are in the Northern Wisconsin woods. The home is very clean and up to date. The bedrooms are on separate floors, so you can have privacy if you bring guests.

My primary love is the wrap around porch. I grew up in a house with such a porch, so I wax nostaligic whenever I can sit on this porch and take in the sound of crickets. There are also many deer in the area, as well as wild turkeys. The use of a garage is a major plus, too.

We are already booked for another stay. It is definitely our home away from home in the Galena area.

The house was extremely clean and well maintained. The shortcut made access to downtown easy although coming back, the stairs could be a challenge for those with physical challenges. We would definitely rent this house again.

Tucked away in a wooded setting like a tree house. The home is perched above meeker street, one block to Main Street. The proximity is very close to town but walking would be a challenge due to the very steep streets that you would have to travel. We found the stairs to walk down to town and used them our entire stay. We did not have to drive. There are many stairs probably 3-4 flights, so if this is not a problem for you walking is a great choice. The property is well kept and clean. Wood is provided for the fire pit. There was everything you could want and need for a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable and the TV had all the streaming services as well as local news from all around the country. A must do is the trolly tour! It is very educational with a terrific guide to show you the area. Must go to Horseshoe Mound Nature and Wildlife area in Galena which is about 20 min drive. Panoramic views of Iowa as well as Mississippi River from high above Galena. The property manager was great and communication was very easy . We loved our stay and will definitely return for a repeat visit.

Our overall experience was wonderful. The house was perfect for our weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. It is very well appointed and in a fantastic location in a very private semi-wooded area, just a few minutes walk to downtown. I could strongly recommend to anyone, especially those with dogs- we brought our 5 yo Beagle, who loved it.

This house was wonderful. Very comfortable and inviting, and also extremely clean! It is a short walk to the main Galena strip. A local resident was very nice and showed us there is a path with stairs so you don't have to walk through the street to get to the shopping areas. We even saw a fox, multiple deer, and other wildlife during our stay. The exterior of the house is covered in beautiful ferns and flowers, making for a beautiful view, even with houses close by. Overall a great experience staying here. We will be returning and would recommend to anyone looking!

The house was very clean and spacious. Even though we were all adults staying, I love (as a mom of 2 babies) that they had baby gates and baby silverware for families with kids who are staying there. It was very peaceful just sitting outside by the fire at night and was quite close to Main Street without getting all the traffic. I will say that it wasn’t close enough for us to walk it. Much better to just drive the few minutes, and they even provide a business card for someone to pick you up and drop you off if you plan on drinking or just don’t feel comfortable driving around yourself. Would definitely rent this place again!

Lovely home. Surrounded by trees and enjoyed the birds and deer. While it is close to Main St, we did drive everytime we went as the hills are crazy steep!

We are regular guests at this location. It works out perfectly with our two Frenchies. The accommodations are just like home. We came to stay here because I was required to travel to the area for work. The downstairs bedroom worked perfectly as an office for Zoom meetings.

During our stay, we had some terrible winter weather with ice. Many people are afraid of the steep driveway under these conditions. However, not to worry! Someone was there right away after one call. They returned to check on the conditions of the driveway the next morning to ensure we could get in and out. The response time was incredible!

If you want a convenient location to downtown and a relaxing environment, this location is perfect for any season.

This is such a lovely house and immaculately clean! The property is very quiet and peaceful, and a short trip to the downtown area. We definitely want to rent it again!

We were a bit disappointed with the media setup at the house. The great room TV is outdated and lacks streaming options beyond Netflix and Prime. Having no access to network programming was a real drag given the below zero temps the weekend we were there and not being able to view what was a big weekend in playoff football. Many rentals follow this pattern of only offering Wi-Fi and smart tvs. We would gladly pay a higher price for a more complete cable tv option at the very least network programming. When you’re stuck inside due to weather or there are major sporting events you need a better option.

We had a wonderful visit. The town is extremely charming with a wide variety of restaurants. This home was wonderful and peaceful. Provided Coffee which was a wonderful welcoming extra. We felt right at home. The trees were gorgeous and we even were greeted by 3 deers.

We stayed 3 nights & enjoyed every minute. House was perfect & everything we expected. Very clean & had everything we needed. We had deer outside our windows all 3 mornings. It rained most of the time but finally cleared our last night so we could enjoy the firepit. We loved the town of Galena with all kinds of nice shops & places to eat. We hope to return someday.

We are from Missouri and we met friends from northern Wisconsin in Galena. We enjoyed Galena. The driveway at 429 Harrison is a little tricky but every other aspect of the home was perfect. The home was very well appointed and clean. I wouldn't change anything.

This place was awesome! Well stocked. Location was perfect. Close enough to downtown but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. The best of both worlds. We hope to stay again soon.

My family and I had an incredible stay at this rental house in Galena, IL. From start to finish, the experience was top-notch. The fact that it was dog-friendly and we could bring our beloved Gizmo along made it all the more special.

In conclusion, we cannot recommend this rental house enough. This is the perfect choice if you're looking for a well-maintained, spacious, and dog-friendly place close to Galena's Main Street. This was a perfect place to stay in Galena! House is beautiful and very clean. The property is very peaceful and serene. The firepit was awesome - and they even provided the wood! Plenty of room for guests to find their own private space.

The house was nicely updated and supplied. The king mattress was ridiculously comfortable. The living room couch was also great. It was nice to only be a four minute drive to downtown. It was a little disappointing that it was impossible to walk to downtown because the roads were too narrow and twisty to be safe if a car came by at the same time. The description said it was possible to walk down the hill in the back, but we couldn't see a path and didn't want to walk in someone's yard. But I didn't want to take a star off for that, since it was a close drive.

We tend to stay at this house every time we return to Galena, being that I am a transplanted local. Our favorite aspect of this property is that we can bring our bulldogs. We have stayed here for extended weekends quite often.

We last stayed at Harrison over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The weather was terrible, so we could not enjoy the fire pit and beautiful wrap around porch. However, the new updates in the kitchen, stairways and upstairs bathroom were a great new touch.

This was a working weekend for my husband and me. This is a two bedroom home, which worked out very well for us to work remotely. The downstairs bedroom provided a great work desk for Zoom meetings and spreading out with work. The WiFi at this place is very reliable.

The wood fireplace made the living room especially cozy during this cold weather period. The use of a garage was particularly welcome, too.

We are really looking forward to our next stay here in warmer weather so we can enjoy the porch and firepit. Yet, it was especially enjoyable even during the worst of weather with the deer and wild turkeys coming right up to the house. There is a wooded path and stairway leading to downtown that is not the adventure hike some claim. We are able to have great views of wildlife and the downtown. We will be back in a couple months again, if not sooner!

Perfect place for getting downtown. Rainy weekend but still able to get downtown for shopping, amazing restaurants and bars. Have to try Embe's, champagne bar. It gets busy so make dinner plans in advance. The place is beautiful and had everything you need. Very clean and maintained. We would recommend a stay here and hope to get back here again!

The house slept 6 comfortably. Plenty of room for everyone. The mattress on the pull out sofa in the living room was a bit thin.
Great location to town. Can walk to Main Street via the stairs near the house or on the street.
Please consider purchasing better bathroom plungers.

We stay at this vacation home regularly since we visit the area often. Our three French Bulldogs are completely relaxed and at home at this house. Naturally, they need to be walked on leashes, but they enjoy the wooded area that leads to the stairway to the downtown area.

This house is especially convenient if you are staying with another couple since there are separate bedrooms and bathrooms on different levels. The kitchen, while small, is very functional. The gas range is wonderful for cooking.

The best part of this house is the porch. Having grown up in a home with a wrap around porch, this is a great retreat to the peace of my childhood. That, along with the firepit outside for making s'mores. In the fall and winter, when the leaves have fallen, nothing beats the sunrise over the city and hills. It makes rising early definitely worth it.

If you are seeking a party house, this is not it. If you are seeking a home away from home with convenience to downtown, this is perfect for you.

This home is beautiful - super clean, lovely decor & good amenities. Easy to get in - instructions are perfect. Very close to town - an easy 5 minute drive. (A hilly walk so we opted to drive.) Would rent again!

This was our fourth stay at the Harrison Property. Despite it being winter, we still had a convenient time. The driveway was just fine, despite it being a steep one. It was well salted and plowed. The house was clean and comfortable as always. This is our go to place to stay whenever in the area. Just miss the porch this time of year, but the view from the back deck was spectacular for sunrises.

Perfect Family set up - the multiple sleeping arrangements, wood burning fire place and dog friendly atmosphere was exactly what we needed.

I was looking for houses where our pup could stay with us and this was just perfect. Great that the two bedrooms are almost like separate apartments. Would love to stay again. Very clean. Close to everything.

We stayed at this property for two nights when I returned for my class reunion. We brought our French Bulldogs along, since it is almost becoming their vacation home after being at this property twice. We always love this place for its layout and location. It is an easy walk down the stairs on the hill to downtown. We had use of the garage, which was appreciated since it was a cold and frosty weekend. The home was exceptionally clean. We loved the use of the indoor fireplace since it was too cold to use the fire pit outside. The view from the back deck to watch the sunrise was beautiful and visible now that the leaves had fallen from the trees.

My only concern is that we could see much more wear and tear on this property since we were there on Labor Day weekend. This is very saddening since this place has always been in suh impeccable condition. The owners and property managers do an outstanding job in maintaining this property and accommodating the guests. It is sad that some guests do not respect that this property is the property and home of someone, thus deserving to be treated with respect. My husband and I greatly appreciate that we are allowed to bring our dogs to this property, thus saving us a great deal of money on dog boarding. I hope future guests appreciate this property as much as we do and treat it with respect for all the great benefits provided.

We had our cousins reunion for the first time without the Aunts, and it was a great place to connect, walk to shop and dine, and just relax. The home was very clean and had all that we needed.

We have stayed at this house twice, now. The second time was even better than the first. If you are seeking a resort style experience as in the Galena Territories, this location is not for you. It is high up on a bluff over the downtown area, and only a short walk downhill to the downtown area. The house is extremely clean. The kitchen is laid our beautifully with a great gas range and galley kitchen. The beds are very comfortable. The best part is the large porch where you can sit in the morning to watch deer and the wild turkeys marching down the driveway. The area is wooded and peaceful. We had our dogs with us, who loved the porch. The yard is not fenced, so your dogs will need to be leashed when they do their business. However, there are many peaceful areas for their walks. We loved it so much that we are booked for two more stays in the next year.

We had a wonderful stay and we’re very happy with the location and the home. Everything was clean, in order and easy to work with.

We were able to get our family together for a few days at this beautiful vacation home. It was the perfect location for feeling away from everything, but yet a short walk or drive to downtown Galena. It's the best of both worlds. Everything was so clean, welcoming, and enjoyable. The decor is beautiful and it has everything you would expect. We enjoyed a couple of deer sightings and the downtown history, outdoor restaurants, and unique shops. We were able to social distance and felt very safe. The owner was very cordial. We are looking forward to a return visit.

The house was beautiful, well appointed and well located. It was perfect to stay at with our friends. We cooked a wonderful dinner together and had a nice time. Most of the furniture was lovely. It would have been even better if the yard had fewer burrs and nettles. Also, the second bed was probably fine for kids, but it was far firmer than we prefer.

We were very impressed with our Harrison St. rental. The house was clean, well equipped, homey and comfortable. We had absolutely everything we needed and more. We enjoyed morning walks down the hill into Galena with our pups. The climb back up wasn't too bad! Beautiful front porch and furniture, perfect for lounging, reading and watching the wild turkeys and deer stroll by on the road above. We will definitely go back.

Our group of seven family members gathered in the Harrison St. house for our annual reunion. We cooked together, ate, talked, laughed, watched old slides, took walks down the hill to the town, toured some historic sites, shopped, and just reconnected. It was a great home.

We had a wonderful stay. Very close to historical downtown, yet had the feel of total privacy. It was very clean and we really enjoyed the wrap around porch. We were happily surprised to find a baby deer hiding in the grass one morning. Loved our stay!

We had a wonderful visit. Home was clean and the appointments tasteful. The manual and tourism information in the house was helpful. We did walk to town via the big hill - easier going down of course! It took exactly 10 minutes to walk to Main St. and about 12 walking up the hill. Pretty views from this home built into the side of the hill. Interesting eclectic and hilly neighborhood - not for the faint of heart or physically challenged - but perfect for active adults. Neighborhood deer visited multiple times a day.

This is a great rental, close to town, but on a tree filled lot that makes you feel like you’re away from it all. There were four deer just outside the front door one morning. Great amenities for our family of four inside the home as well.

Such a great house! Perfect for a girls trip or couples getaway. The views are priceless! I can't wait to see this house again in the Summer. There is so much great outdoor space that we didn't get to explore due to the frigid temps. The house is warm and inviting. Each bedroom is a part of it's own suite. So there is a lot of space for hanging out, as well as, space to decompress and be alone if you need. The house is close enough to downtown to get there in a hurry, but far enough away to still feel like you're getting to enjoy all the great scenery that Galena has to offer.
